In Celtic folklore, the Leannán Sídhe is a beautiful woman of the Aos Sídhi (fairy folk), a faerie mistress seeking mortal lovers, who are said to live brief yet highly inspired lives. The name comes from the Gaelic words for lover, or concubine, and the term for barrow or fairy-mound. The Leannán Sídhe is generally depicted as a strikingly beautiful muse, who offers inspiration to an artist in exchange for their love and devotion; a dangerous relationship that frequently results in madness for the artist, or even premature death.
